Description of Program |
Swing Space is a project-based residency program that matches visual and performing artists and arts groups with space for the development and presentation of new work. Since its launch in 2005, Swing Space has placed over a thousand artists in more than 20 different spaces, including ground floor retail spaces, gutted industrial spaces, upper level office floors, and subterranean bank vaults. Swing Space is designed to address short-term space needs for a wide range of projects, and to encourage creative, experimental and collaborative approaches to artistic practice in unconventional spaces.
Swing Space locations change frequently, but all are located in Lower Manhattan. Individual artists and arts groups may apply for space in three categories: Development Space, for studio or rehearsal space to create or develop new work; Presentation Space, for performance or exhibition space to present a public project; and Office Space, for temporary project-specific administrative work. |

LMCC provides basic marketing support featuring artists, performers, and programs on the LMCC website and promoting public events in monthly email newsletters. Visual Artists participate in periodic open studio events, and Performing Artists have the opportunity to host informal performances such as open rehearsals or works-in-progress presentations. Access is provided to Materials for the Arts, Fractured Atlas, and other services and support as available.
