Mission Statement |
Dancenow/NYC’s mission is to provide threshold performance and career opportunities for today’s dance artists, young and old, and to generate new audiences for dance. Informed by two decades of producing dance in NYC, Dancenow/NYC is clearly focused on the promotion of artists through an extended relationship that provides challenging and stimulating performance opportunities, year-round, as well as a residency program to encourage and nurture the creative process and development of new work. Equally committed to introducing dance to new audiences, Dancenow/NYC offers fun, accessible and unconventional ways to experience a vast and inspirational spectrum of contemporary dance. Designing performance events for traditional theaters as well as unusual urban sites, Dancenow/NYC offers audiences a fresh look at the new pulse, passion and direction of dance each year.
Dancenow/NYCs’ three programs, The Festival, dancemOpolitan@Joe’s Pub and The Silo Artist Residency work together to better serve today’s dancemakers and their audiences and to fullfill our twofold mission. The Festival (right after Labor Day) is the starting point of the Dancenow/NYC performance season, revealing the work of NYC’s most innovative dancemakers, and heralding the beginning of the fall dance season by bringing the dance community and its audiences together to take a look at what’s now in downtown dance. New discoveries and highlights from the annual Festival are filtered into dancemOpolitan@Joe’s Pub, Dancenow/NYC’s year-round program at The Public Theater, to provide multi-performance opportunities for these dancemakers as well as unique and challenging creative outlets and extended visibilty for their work. Dancenow/NYC has expanded its service s to the NYC dance community by offering all artists participating in The Festival and dancemOpolitan the opportunity to participate in The Silo Artist Residency program, encouraging the creation and or development of new work for the next season, and is developing paid teaching, workshop and performance opportunities in Pennsylvania.
