We ask artists to describe in detail how the region will affect their work, to propose a public component to their residency and to suggest ways in which they will engage with the local community. A Studio in the Woods, located in the Louisiana wetlands, has observed firsthand the dynamic nature of this rapidly changing territory which in turn affects the entire northern hemisphere. We envision this as a powerful context for the exploration of critical thinking, the development of new ideas and strategies, and using the creative process as a catalyst for social change. No Support or Services Provided as part of the Program Stipend, how much: $0.00 Housing Studio Space Facilities/Equipment Access Exhibition Space/Opportunity Technical Support/Professional Development Description of Support or Services Housing: The artists’ guest room with private entry and bath is located on the ground floor of the Carmichael’s rustic home beautifully handcrafted from recycled materials. There is a private studio (approximately 185 square feet) furnished with a writing desk, an electric keyboard, ample wall and shelf space and a beautiful view of the pond and surrounding woods. This building has limited wireless access. There is a meadow and wooded land on the property available for outdoor installations, performances, or workspace. Nearby there are also many miles of public land on the Mississippi River levee and batture. Any additional equipment needed is the sole responsibility of the artist although the supply stipend may be applied to the purchase of needed materials.
