Year Program Founded 2017
Description of Program The PNC Arts Alive Diversity Fellowship program at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis is designed to offer young people the opportunity to gain experience in the museum and arts administration professions. The fellowship encourages young people from groups and/or cultural backgrounds that have been traditionally underrepresented in the arts professions to take on prominent roles in—and shape the future of—arts institutions. The Diversity Fellowship program is part of CAM’s Museum Pathways Project (MPP), designed to foster CAM’s career pipeline initiative, which aims to train young adults for lifelong involvement with museums. Ultimately, MPP provides gateways to contemporary art and museums for a new generation, inviting young people from underserved populations to experience every aspect of the museum profession.

Diversity Fellows will gain hands-on knowledge in all aspects of museum work, including education, curatorial, development, marketing, and public relations. Museum staff will work with the Fellows to draw focus to the goals and functions of each specific department. Eligibility

Applicants must:
• Be of a group underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent.
• Be currently enrolled in and have completed at least one year of an undergraduate program at the start time of the fellowship.
• Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
Preference will be given to former participants in one of CAM’s youth programs (ArtReach, LEAP, New Art in the Neighborhood, Teen Museum Studies) and/or a previous intern.
