Mission Statement MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.

Description of Program The "heart and soul" of MusiCares is the Emergency Financial Assistance Program that provides critical funds for music people struggling with financial, medical or personal crises. This program offers financial assistance for medical expenses including doctor, dental and hospital bills, prescriptions, addiction recovery treatment, psychotherapy, treatment for HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other critical illnesses, as well as basic living expenses such as rent & utilities.

    Description of Support or Services A health and human services staff member assesses the client's current situation, provides crisis intervention if needed, and offers supplemental referrals to local and national organizations where appropriate. Approved financial assistance is paid directly to a verified creditor, vendor or third party. Grant amounts are decided on a case by case basis.

    Other Restrictions This program is available to music people who have experienced an unavoidable emergency. Eligibility consists of documented employment in the music industry for at least five years or credited contribution to six commercially released recordings or videos. Documentation can be provided in a variety of ways including liner note credits, copies of contracts, check stubs, brochures, flyers and newspaper articles.

    Selection Process/Criteria Case summaries are forwarded to the Eligibility Committee for approval. An application must receive 4 out of 7 approvals to pass.
