Description of Program Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to presenting the dynamic world of contemporary craft to the Houston community. The Artist-in-Residence program is designed to offer time and space for craft artists to focus on their creative work and interact with the public. The program supports emerging, mid-career, and established artists working in all craft media, including but not limited to; clay, fiber, glass, metal, and wood. Artists selected for the program receive a 200 sq. ft. studio and a monthly stipend. The studios are equipped with sinks, telephones and internet DSL access. Artists are selected based on the quality of their creative work, ability to interact with the public, career direction, and program diversity.

Description of Support or Services In addition to a studio space and stipend, participating artists will have access to a wide variety of resources and opportunities, including teaching assignments through HCCC and collaborative works with other resident artists. Resident artists’ creative work is represented by HCCC while in residence and may be carried in the Asher Sales Gallery. To support artistic development, the program offers additional opportunities such as discussions with curators and gallery owners, exposure at HCCC events, and interactions with visiting art professionals.

Material/Process 1. Completed Artist-in-Residence application form Please print legibly or type 2. Three letters of recommendation in hard copy form Can be mailed separately or included in the application packet The following items must be contained on a CD: 3. A (1) one page letter of intent with a brief description of your work or project to be completed while in residence, your career direction, and why you should be awarded a residency at HCCC. 4. A current resume or Curriculum Vitae Please include name, address, preferred phone number, and email; cannot exceed (3) three pages 5. Artist statement, (1) one page or less, describing your creative work, process, technique, and conceptual development. 6. Digital images* of ten (10) works, created within the last 2 years. Include on the CD one wide-shot and one close-up detail of each piece for a total number of twenty (20) images, numbered and labeled to match the image identification sheet.
