Description of Program |
DiP is Dance in Process — Gibney Dance Center’s new residency program that will provide dance makers with the opportunity for creative immersion in a studio space and adjacent production office for extended periods of time, as well as creative resources and support. DiP will focus on
“mid-career” New York City-based dance artists who are in the “mid-stage” of the process for a project. |
Conditions/Public Service Requirements |
Although DiP will not impose specific residency requirements (showings, lec-dems, teaching), GDC requests that each Resident Artist participate in a public manifestation of their process or
experience, such as writing, an interview, showing or open rehearsal; and an assessment of the DiP experience and its impact at the end of the residency and one year later. |

DIP defines a “mid-career artist” as one who has established a significant body of work, either in terms of the amount of time in the field or in terms of impact, momentum or recognition. This definition could encompass an exceptional “emerging artist” who has significant creative momentum, or an “established artist” whose work is not supported by a strong organizational
infrastructure. DIP defines the “mid-stage” of a project as the broad period of time after the initial research, but prior to pre-production. |
