Mission Statement Repertorio Espanol was founded in 1968 by producer Gilberto Zaldivar and artistic director Rene Buch to introduce the best of Latin American, Spanish and Hispanic American theatre in distinctive, quality productions, and to bring theatre to a broad audience in New York City and across the country, including seniors, students, and Hispanics of all national background.

Description of Program In 2000, MetLife Foundation and Repertorio EspaƱol joined forces to establish the MetLife Nuestras Voces National Playwriting Competition to discover the best Latino plays and bring them to the attention of the American theatre community. These original works relate to Latino culture, history, and life in the United States while at the same time reflecting the universality of the human condition.

Other Restrictions Playwrights must be residents of the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Full-length unpublished/unproduced scripts in either Spanish or English. No musicals or adaptations. Plays that have not had a full production by a professional theatre company, not reviewed, and not produced in New York. Plays that have had a staged reading are eligible. Email submissions are not accepted.
