Mission Statement Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA) was formed in 1979 to meet the legal and accounting needs of artists and nonprofit organizations. TALA is the largest provider of pro bono legal and accounting services to the arts in the United States. TALA volunteers throughout Texas handle more than 800 matters per year. This amounts to more than one million dollars annually in donated services to the arts and cultural community.

Description of Service TALA matches low income artists and non-profit arts groups with volunteer attorneys and accountants to assist with arts-related legal and financial matters.

Legal Services for Artists and Arts Nonprofits:
Non-Profit Arts Organization Incorporation, Contract Drafting, Negotiation and Review, Estate Planning for Artists, Copyright, Trademark, IP Licensing Arts-Related Landlord/Tenant Issues, Demand Letters, Dispute Resolution / Arts Mediation

Accounting Services for Artists and Arts Nonprofits:
Financial Reviews, Chart of Accounts, Financial Statements, Annual Budgets, Application for tax exempt status, Employment Taxes

Cases Not Handled Through TALA:
Family Law (Child Custody, Divorce, etc), Criminal Law, Personal Injury, Litigation, 1040 Individual Tax Return, Audits

Please be advised that TALA is not staffed to provide emergency legal or accounting assistance, nor does TALA provide representation to individuals or organizations before courts, arbitration panels, administrative proceedings, or other governmental bodies.
Conditions/Public Service Requirements To be matched with a volunteer through TALA, you must be:
- A resident of the state of Texas or organization established in the state of Texas
- An individual artist with a combined annual household income less than $50,000 OR an arts nonprofit organization with annual gross revenue less than $200,000 AND less than $500,000 in assets.
- A member of TALA (individual annual membership is $75)
